One of the most wonderfully strange and endlessly entertaining things about Japan is Puri Kura. Vanity in its most funnest of forms. These are photo booths where you can become a far prettier human/ animal than you really are. Simply by adding white skin (which is all the rage in Asia), bigger eyes, color contacts, shiny lips, rosy skin then some sparkles and gems you can quite quickly turn yourself into a dolly. Not only can you beautify things but you can make a boring picture explode into something really quite spectacular. There are dozens of folders of things to add to spark up your photo, pretty borders, the date to mark an event, some quotes, a heart or 7, a sparkle or 70, cupcakes, fairy’s, cats and kittens….. They are highly addictive and an essential part of Japanese life for all ages, but extremely popular among the teens… foreigners seem to really really enjoy it too!
400yen (just over 3euro) for a strip of photos that you can keep in your wallet or stick to your phone. It’s a great thing to do when you go on a trip, a personal memory that you can keep forever, it will always be close to remind you where you were, when where you there, who you were with and how much fun you had! I know I will love having these for years to come but right now they give me just as much joy, every time I see them they make me laugh.
